US President-elect Donald Trump has selected Linda McMahon, the former WWE CEO, as his education secretary, despite previously proposing to abolish the department.
In a statement, Trump highlighted McMahon’s dedication to advocating for parental rights and her efforts in promoting universal school choice across 12 states, allowing children to access quality education regardless of their socio-economic background.
McMahon, who was initially considered for the position of commerce secretary, previously served as the head of the Small Business Administration during Trump’s first term. She is also a major Trump supporter and donor, co-founded the WWE, and chaired the America First Policy Institute, a think tank aligned with Trump’s agenda.
Although Trump had suggested eliminating the Education Department during his campaign, McMahon will now lead the agency, a move that would require congressional approval to implement any such plans.
