Protesting employees lock Radio Pakistan gates in Islamabad

A faction of the Radio Pakistan employees’ union locked the gates of the organization’s headquarters on Monday, prompting police and law enforcement agencies to cordon off the building to prevent the protesters from entering the Red Zone.

Tensions ran high as union members, led by Secretary General Mohammad Ijaz, staged a protest, closing the main gate of the headquarters located on Constitutional Avenue, opposite the Prime Minister’s Secretariat and near the Islamabad High Court.

Following unsuccessful negotiations with the protesters, Radio Pakistan’s management called in the police.

Addressing the demonstrators, Mr. Ijaz claimed that police officers had entered the premises with the intent to arrest some of the protesters.
