A 3-year-old boy with autism drowned in an open manhole near the office of the medical director (MD) at the Children Hospital, where he had been brought for treatment. His body was discovered two hours later, after his mother desperately knocked on the doors of various hospital officials.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday and is believed to be a result of alleged negligence by the hospital management, which reportedly tried to cover up the event.
The child, identified as Muhammad Basim Ikhlaq, was found dead by the hospital sweeper two hours after falling into the manhole. The hospital did not contact Rescue 1122 for assistance, likely to prevent the incident from becoming public.
Basim Ikhlaq had been brought to the hospital for treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), which affects a child’s development, growth, and nervous system.
