IHC calls Adiala Jail official over PTI’s denied access to Imran Khan

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned the superintendent of Adiala Jail following allegations of non-compliance with court orders that permitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders to meet with party chairman Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated. The hearing, presided over by Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan, was convened in response to a contempt of court petition filed by Khan’s legal representative, Faisal Chaudhry.

In the petition, Chaudhry argued that earlier court rulings, which were consistent with jail regulations, allowed PTI officials to visit Imran Khan. Despite these directives, he expressed frustration that the jail authorities had consistently denied access to Khan. Chaudhry emphasized that the court had set up a three-member lawyer commission to facilitate these visits, but even with this, repeated attempts had been obstructed.

Justice Khan raised the issue with the state counsel, who stated that they had no new information regarding the situation. The counsel suggested that the jail superintendent would be able to offer clarification on why the restrictions were still in place. In response, the court ordered the superintendent to appear before the bench on November 12 to explain why the orders were not being followed.

This development adds to the ongoing tension between PTI leadership and the authorities over Khan’s detention and access to legal counsel. The court’s summons signifies the serious nature of the allegations and the need for a detailed explanation from the jail authorities regarding their actions.
