Sindh Cabinet Approves Key Measures for Education, Employment, and Infrastructure Development
KARACHI: The Sindh cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, approved a series of important initiatives aimed at enhancing education, employment opportunities, and infrastructure development across the province.
The cabinet approved a budget of Rs232.14 million for conducting a retake of the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT). This decision comes after the Sindh High Court ordered a fresh MDCAT, following concerns over the integrity of the September 22 test. The health department has been tasked with ensuring that the revised MDCAT, which will be free of charge for candidates, is conducted smoothly by IBA-Sukkur within the next six weeks. The test will be based on the syllabus taught in the province, and no validation from the previous year will be considered.
Additionally, the Sindh cabinet approved the establishment of the Sindh Job Portal (SJP) in collaboration with Sukkur IBA University. The portal will streamline the recruitment process for government jobs ranging from grade 1 to 15, allowing for automated application submissions, real-time tracking, and data analytics, thereby addressing the inefficiencies of the current manual system. The SJP will integrate with applicants who have passed the Sindh Testing Service (STS) exams, further simplifying the hiring process.
As part of its environmental initiatives, the cabinet authorized the establishment of the Sindh Environmental Protection Council in accordance with the Sindh Environmental Protection Act of 2014. The council, which will be chaired by the chief minister, aims to oversee and implement the province’s climate change policies and action plans, ensuring the effective management of environmental challenges.
On infrastructure, the government has approved Rs6.63 billion for the reconstruction of eight major roads damaged by recent floods and rains. These roads, crucial for local connectivity, will be reconstructed on an emergency basis. The cabinet also approved the extension of contracts for health facilities in the districts of Sujawal and Thatta, transferring administrative control to the health department and Liaquat University of Health Sciences, respectively.
These initiatives are a part of Sindh’s broader efforts to address urgent issues in education, employment, infrastructure, and environmental protection, aiming to improve the quality of life for the province’s residents.
