Iran executes four following deadly attack in Southeast

Iranian armed forces killed four militants following a deadly attack on a police station in the troubled southeast region, according to state media reports on Tuesday. This incident raised the overall death toll to eight.

On October 26, militants from the Jaish al-Adl group attacked police officers in Taftan county, located in Sistan-Baluchistan province, resulting in the deaths of ten officers. This was one of the deadliest assaults in the area in recent months.

“Eight terrorists have been eliminated during operations in the province,” said Revolutionary Guards commander Ahmad Shafahi, as reported by the official IRNA news agency. He also noted that 14 additional militants were arrested, including key figures linked to the Taftan attack, and that security forces seized a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition.

Late on Monday, IRNA quoted Guards ground forces commander Mohammad Pakpour, who stated that the militants responsible for the October 26 attack were “not Iranian,” although he did not disclose their nationalities.

Sistan-Baluchistan, which borders Afghanistan and Pakistan, is one of Iran’s most impoverished provinces and has been a hotspot for cross-border attacks by separatist groups. Clashes between security forces and armed groups are common in the area.

Earlier in October, at least six individuals, including police officers, lost their lives in two separate attacks in the province, which were also claimed by Jaish al-Adl on Telegram.

Established in 2012 by Baluch separatists, Jaish al-Adl is classified as a “terrorist organization” by both Iran and the United States.
