Two Chinese nationals were injured in Karachi on Tuesday when a security guard opened fire, as reported by a police officer amid a report of a “clash” at a local police station.
Kemari Senior Superintendent of Police Faizan Ali spoke to reporters at the scene, confirming that “two Chinese [nationals] have been injured due to a security guard’s firing.”
According to a statement from the Sindh home department, the altercation occurred between the foreigners and security guards at a police station in the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) A area of Karachi.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has directed authorities to arrest the security guard involved in the incident. He requested details from the South deputy inspector general, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation and an inquiry report regarding police actions.
The home minister also stated that security companies providing protection to Chinese residents and other foreigners should undergo audits, and that audit reports must be reviewed.
He stressed the importance of conducting physical and mental fitness assessments for security personnel assigned to these duties, insisting that only fully trained and fit guards be utilized. Additionally, he ordered a crackdown on unregistered and illegal security firms.
A spokesperson for Liaquat National Hospital reported that both injured Chinese citizens are receiving treatment, with one in serious condition.
Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori expressed concern for the injured individuals and requested a report from Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon.
“The safety of foreign residents is our top priority,” his office stated. “Those responsible for the incident will be held accountable.”
Earlier in October, a significant explosion near Jinnah International Airport resulted in three fatalities and at least 11 injuries, including one Chinese citizen. The outlawed Majeed Brigade, associated with the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), claimed responsibility for that attack.
