Pakistan Railways introduce a special train from Karachi to Raiwind

Pakistan Railways (PR) has announced a new special train service from Karachi to Raiwind to enhance public accessibility.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the inaugural train, which consists of 14 economy-class coaches, is set to depart from Karachi on September 6 at 1:30 p.m. and is expected to arrive in Raiwind around 8:00 a.m. the next day.

The ministry projects that this new service will generate approximately 8.5 million rupees, contributing to its revenue target of over 100 billion rupees for the upcoming fiscal year (2024-25). Earlier this year, Pakistan Railways achieved record earnings of 88 billion rupees for the 2023-24 fiscal year, which ended on June 30, reflecting a significant 40% increase compared to the previous year and exceeding the targeted 73 billion rupees.

The revenue was generated from multiple sources, including 47 billion rupees from ticket sales, 28 billion from freight services, and 13 billion from leasing railway land along with other income streams.

In a statement to a local news channel, Pakistan Railways CEO Amir Ali Baloch expressed gratitude for the passengers’ trust in PR services, noting the success of the Eid special trains, which were fully booked. Baloch attributed the revenue growth to enhancements in service quality.
