The Supreme Court is set to hear nearly 1,000 cases this week, marking the first under the new Chief Justice, Yahya Afridi. The apex court issued the cause list while also scheduling a full court meeting for Monday.
All available Supreme Court judges will attend this full court session, except for Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, who is in Saudi Arabia for Umrah. Chief Justice Afridi will preside over the meeting, which is slated for 1 PM and is expected to involve significant administrative decisions and discussions on judicial reforms. Afridi convened this meeting right after taking his oath of office on Saturday.
In addition, the Supreme Court released the cause list for the judicial week from October 28 to November 1, which includes 968 cases assigned to eight regular benches. The first bench, comprising Chief Justice Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan, will handle 140 cases in courtroom No. 1.
The second bench, made up of Justices Munib Akhtar and Athar Manullah, will also address 140 cases, while the third bench, consisting of Justices Aminuddin Khan and Irfan Saadat Khan, is scheduled for another 140 cases. Additionally, the fourth bench, which includes Justices Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Musrat Hilali, and Shahzad Ahmed Khan, will take on 58 cases. The fifth bench, consisting of Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Hasan Azhar Rizvi, will hear 140 cases.
