Six Baloch students reported missing have returned home

Six of the eight Baloch students who went missing on October 16 from their shared residence in Gulistan-i-Jauhar have returned home, their families reported on Friday.

According to the families, Ishfaq, Shahzad, Bebarg Ameer, Zubair, Qambar Ali, and Saeedullah were “released by the police” in Uthal, Balochistan. However, Hanif and Shoaib remain unaccounted for.

Wazir Ahmed, the brother of one of the missing students, told Dawn that the six students were released early Friday morning, around 1 a.m., at the Uthal police station.

The families had previously alleged that law enforcement agencies picked up the eight students during a raid at their home on October 16. They subsequently filed a petition with the Sindh High Court, which issued notices to the home secretary, the inspector general of police, and other relevant parties, directing the police to produce the “detainees” in court by November 4.
