In the Gaza Strip, efforts to deliver food to the besieged Palestinian territory are intensifying amidst challenging circumstances. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees reported that one of its aid warehouses in war-torn Gaza was struck on Wednesday, resulting in numerous casualties.
According to the agency, the incident occurred in the eastern part of Rafah, where Israeli forces targeted a food distribution center. Tragically, one UNRWA staff member lost their life, and 22 others sustained injuries in the attack. Philippe Lazzarini, the agency’s chief, emphasized that this assault occurred at a critical time when food supplies are dwindling, hunger is widespread, and the threat of famine looms large.
Gaza’s health ministry confirmed that four individuals lost their lives in the bombing of the warehouse. Israeli airstrikes over the past five months have led to significant civilian casualties, extensive destruction of infrastructure, and raised concerns about an impending famine in the densely populated Palestinian territory, home to 2.4 million people.
