Rs43 billion allocated for introduction of Eco-Friendly buses in five cities

On Friday, the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) greenlit a budget of Rs43 billion for the introduction of environmentally friendly buses in five key cities across Punjab.

This decision was made during the 39th meeting of the PDWP, which was chaired by Nabeel Awan, Chairman of the Planning and Development Board. The initiative is designed to improve public transportation while promoting sustainable practices that are environmentally conscious.

The new eco-friendly buses will be rolled out in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, and Bahawalpur. This effort aims to combat air pollution, alleviate traffic congestion, and provide residents with a dependable and efficient means of transportation.

By enhancing public transport accessibility, this initiative is expected to improve urban living conditions, making it a more attractive option for commuters. Additionally, it aligns with global environmental standards and contributes positively to the overall welfare of the community.

The meeting was attended by several high-profile officials, including Dr. Asif Tufail, Secretary of the Planning and Development Board, Ahmed Javed Qazi, Secretary of the Transport Department, Chief Economist Masood Anwar, and various board members and senior officials.

This funding represents a significant step toward a more sustainable urban transportation system in Punjab, reflecting the government’s commitment to environmental stewardship and improved public services.
