PM Shehbaz commends Punjab police for eliminating ten terrorists in Mianwali.

On Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the Punjab police for their effective operation that resulted in the elimination of ten terrorists during a collaborative intelligence-based mission conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and the Mianwali police.

In a statement issued on October 24, the Punjab Police revealed that the CTD and Mianwali police acted on credible intelligence regarding the presence of 10 to 15 terrorists in a mountainous region under the jurisdiction of the Makkarwal Police Station. The operation was spearheaded by Mianwali District Police Officer (DPO) Akhtar Farooq, with additional support from elite force personnel. During the operation, a fierce exchange of fire took place, ultimately leading to the death of ten members of the Khawarij group.

In a press release from the Prime Minister’s office, Shehbaz expressed his appreciation for the Punjab police’s successful efforts, highlighting their swift and decisive actions against the Khawarij. He stated, “The entire nation feels proud of its brave policemen,” emphasizing the government’s commitment to continue its fight against terrorism until it is completely eradicated.

In July, the government had officially classified the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as Fitna al Khawarij, directing all institutions to refer to those involved in terrorist activities in Pakistan as khariji (outcast). The recent months have witnessed a surge in terrorist attacks, with 59 incidents reported across the country in August alone, according to data from the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), a think tank based in Islamabad. Prior to this operation, the Punjab CTD also apprehended nine terrorists from banned organizations in September, showcasing ongoing efforts to enhance security in the region.
