Palestinian students receive confirmation of support.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the international community’s inaction regarding the genocide of Palestinians. He assured Palestinian students that they would receive comprehensive support and quality education in Pakistan, which he referred to as their “second home.”

Speaking to a group of exceptional Palestinian students from war-torn Gaza, the Prime Minister welcomed them warmly. He highlighted the ongoing massacre of Palestinians, which has gained global awareness. “It is heartbreaking to witness the daily brutalities inflicted by Israeli forces. Over 43,000 Palestinians have lost their lives, with countless others injured and maimed,” he stated.

Sharif pointed out the widespread destruction in Palestinian cities, with entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble, while the international community has remained largely silent. “Although there have been many speeches, resolutions, and promises made, concrete action has not yet taken place.” Be it UN Security Council resolutions or verdicts from the International Court of Justice at The Hague, none have succeeded in achieving a ceasefire in Gaza. We have not witnessed such a level of carnage in modern history,” he added.

During his recent address at the United Nations General Assembly, the Prime Minister noted that world leaders expressed concern for the Palestinians, yet violence continues unabated in Gaza, where hospitals and schools are targeted, and civilians suffer. He contrasted the international response to crises in regions like Sudan and Bosnia, regretting the delayed action until mass tragedies were uncovered.

Shehbaz praised the resilience of the Palestinian people, which serves as a beacon of hope. He also shared a poignant moment regarding the struggles of two young Palestinian sisters, emphasizing that their plight has touched many hearts except those in power who could effect change.

In his address, the Prime Minister extended heartfelt condolences to the Palestinian people on behalf of Pakistan. He promised that the Pakistani government would do everything possible to support the students during their time in the country, framing the gathering as a family reunion rather than just a formal event.

He acknowledged the contributions of organizations involved in the Gaza Health Outreach program, including the Alkhidmat Foundation, and announced that more Palestinian students would be welcomed in Pakistan. The Prime Minister confirmed that the government would cover their educational expenses.

Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmad Bharath, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Health, shared that 145 students had arrived from Gaza and were now enrolled in medical and dental programs in Islamabad and Lahore, receiving high-quality education. Dr. Rizwan Taj, president of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, assured that all arrangements were made for the students’ education, emphasizing that they would not be charged any fees. Two female students from Gaza expressed their gratitude to the Pakistani government for enabling their education amid the difficulties they face back home.
