On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the relationship between Russia and China, calling it “an example of how international relations should be built.” He emphasized that both nations are deepening their coordination in global affairs.
During a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, Putin highlighted that despite significant external pressures, the two countries have continued to grow bilateral trade and expand cooperation across various sectors.
Putin described the partnership as equal and mutually respectful, with both Moscow and Beijing reinforcing their collaboration on the global stage.
Xi Jinping, for his part, stressed that the strong relationship between Russia and China is not aimed against any third country and that global changes will not weaken the enduring friendship between the two nations.
China and Russia, Xi noted, have discovered the “right” way for major neighboring countries to coexist, focusing on “non-alliance, non-confrontation, and not targeting any third party.” A statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry echoed this sentiment, noting that both leaders have consistently guided the strategic direction of their relationship, based on lasting goodwill, mutual benefit, and comprehensive strategic cooperation.
Xi further expressed confidence that the world’s current upheavals will not affect the deep-rooted bond between Russia and China, nor their shared sense of responsibility toward global stability and the welfare of their peoples.
This meeting in Kazan marked the third face-to-face discussion between Putin and Xi this year, following Putin’s state visit to China in May and their meeting in July at the SCO summit in Astana, Kazakhstan.
