University of Gujrat penalized Rs100,000 for not enforcing harassment code.

The Ombudsperson Punjab, Nabila Hakim Khan, has imposed a fine of Rs 100,000 on the University of Gujrat for failing to establish a harassment committee and display the harassment code of conduct, as required by the Protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace and the Punjab Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights Act 2021.

The Ombudsperson stressed that all institutions—whether public, semi-government, or private—must set up a harassment inquiry committee and display the harassment code in a language that members of the institution can understand.

The university has been given seven days to pay the fine, with the possibility of contempt of court proceedings if they fail to meet the deadline.
