In response to a letter addressed by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of JUI-F, to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding the notification of Sadaf Ehsan as JUI-F’s MNA on a reserved seat, the ECP has taken action.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman criticized the ECP’s decision and questioned the validity of appointing Sadaf Ehsan, stating it was either a deliberate act or a result of incompetence, as there was no mention of a woman named Sadaf Ehsan in JUI-F’s list of reserved seat candidates.
In its response, the ECP clarified that Sadaf Yasmeen’s name was provided by JUI-F to the returning officer (RO), claiming she was their designated candidate. However, it was noted that no candidate by the name of Sadaf Ehsan had submitted nomination papers. The ECP further stated that a woman named Sadaf Ehsan, hailing from Lakki Marwat, had indeed filed nomination papers.
To resolve the discrepancy, the ECP issued notices to all relevant parties and decided to conduct an open hearing to address the matter. Additionally, the commission ordered an inquiry into the incident and suspended the returning officer pending further investigation.
