Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has accused Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of inciting unrest by encouraging students to engage in violence through its official social media platform. She made these remarks in response to a press conference by Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar, a leader of the opposition, accusing PTI of inciting students to cause disruptions.
According to Bukhari, members of the Insaf Student Wing were reportedly involved in acts of vandalism, as documented by Express News. She directly addressed Bhachar, stating, “Bhachar Sahib, you’re not as innocent as you pretend to be,” implying that his party was complicit in the unrest.
Bukhari went on to claim that former leaders of the Insaf Student Wing had provoked students to participate in violent activities, further asserting that video evidence exists to support her allegations. She also accused PTI of maliciously planning to defame a young girl and her family, which ultimately led to student protests.
In addition, the minister criticized PTI for perpetuating propaganda against women, mentioning that both she and Maryam Nawaz have been targets of such smear campaigns. She highlighted the harmful tactics used by PTI to manipulate public opinion.
Despite these challenges, Bukhari reassured the public that the situation in cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala remains under control. She emphasized that the police are actively maintaining peace and warned that anyone attempting to spread misinformation or disrupt the peace would face strict legal consequences.
Earlier, Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar had accused Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz of using PTI as a scapegoat for her government’s failures. He also claimed that the alleged rape incident at a private college in Lahore was fabricated as part of a conspiracy orchestrated by PTI.
