A security guard was arrested on Sunday after reports of the alleged rape of a student at the Punjab Group of Colleges circulated on social media. The police have confirmed that an investigation is currently in progress.
During protests against the alleged rape, at least 27 people were injured in clashes between students and the college’s security team, followed by confrontations with police, according to rescue officials.
The Punjab Group of Colleges issued a statement claiming that no incident of rape had been reported and attributing the unrest to “false claims circulating on social media.” Police stated that an FIR had not yet been filed as the victim’s family had not come forward.
Angered by the alleged incident, students took to social media and staged protests outside various colleges in the city. Clashes erupted during one protest, resulting in injuries on both sides.
In response to the situation, the Directorate of Public Instruction (Colleges), Punjab, suspended the registration of Punjab College for Women “until further notice.

In the wake of the protests and social media backlash, celebrities have taken to Instagram to express their outrage. Durefishan Saleem shared her frustration and anger, questioning how long society will continue to hear such stories.
“How long do we have to keep warning our daughters to be ‘careful’?” If you’ve ever been part of a culture that blames the victim, you are part of this rape culture,” Saleem wrote. She emphasized that each incident of rape reflects a societal failure.
Yumna Zaidi expressed her heartbreak and lack of words in the face of the incident, stating, “Every abuse, every injustice, every cruelty will require an answer,” and called for justice for the victim.
