Farooq Sattar, a leader of MQM Pakistan, has voiced his apprehensions regarding the recently proposed constitutional amendments, claiming that these changes are more influenced by political interests than by genuine principles.
In response to inquiries about whether his party would support the amendments, Sattar clarified that the MQM has yet to review the draft of the proposed reforms. He expressed concern that the amendments appear to be shaped by political necessities, suggesting that if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were in power, they would likely pursue similar alterations to the constitution.
Sattar also pointed out that PTI recognizes the importance of expanding Parliament’s role in the appointment of judges and the functioning of constitutional courts. This acknowledgment, he argues, underscores the political motivations driving the current reform efforts. As discussions around the amendments continue, Sattar’s remarks highlight the ongoing debate about the intersection of politics and constitutional reform in Pakistan.
