Ayesha Hamid takes oath as Punjab’s first Ombudswoman

The prestigious swearing-in ceremony took place at the Governor House, where Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan administered the oath. Rafaqat Ali Nisawana, the Implementation and Coordination Secretary, formally announced Ayesha Hamid’s appointment during the event, reflecting the province’s progressive steps toward gender inclusivity in leadership roles.

Among the attendees were retired Major Azam Suleman, former provincial ombudsman; Shahid Hamid, former Punjab governor; Zahid Hamid, former federal minister; retired Captain Saqib Zafar, Principal Secretary to the Governor; NHA Chairman Shehryar Sultan; and Jahanzaib Khan. Their presence underscored the importance of Ayesha Hamid’s role in shaping the province’s commitment to justice and fairness.

Ayesha’s historic appointment not only sets a precedent for future generations of women but also strengthens the institutional mechanisms that address issues of harassment and discrimination.
