Yousuf Raza Gilani acquitted in three corruption cases

Former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has been acquitted in three longstanding corruption cases due to a lack of evidence. These cases, which had been pending for years, were part of a broader legal battle linked to the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), a controversial measure enacted in 2007 by then-President Pervez Musharraf. The NRO granted amnesty to politicians and bureaucrats accused of corruption between 1986 and 1999 but was later declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in 2009, reviving cases against several political figures, including Gilani.

His acquittal could have significant political implications, strengthening his position within the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and influencing the broader political landscape. The decision also reignites discussions about accountability and the judicial process in Pakistan.
