After months of dry weather, the return of winter has brought rain and snowfall to upper and central regions of Pakistan, lowering temperatures and refreshing the landscape. The highest rainfall was recorded in Islamabad’s Golra area at 70 mm, while other notable measurements included 48 mm in Narowal and 56 mm in Dir Bala. Popular destinations like Murree and the Kaghan Valley were blanketed in snow, attracting tourists to enjoy the season’s charm.
Snowfall in Abbottabad, Galiyat, Shangla, and Naran transformed these areas into winter wonderlands, though it posed challenges for local authorities who worked to clear roads and ensure safety. The Kaghan Development Authority restored access in key tourist regions, allowing visitors to relish the snowy views.
Rain and snow have also replenished key water reserves like Rawal Dam and Simly Dam, alleviating concerns over water shortages. The weather has been declared a sign of relief for farmers, as it’s expected to benefit wheat crops and other seasonal produce.
Temperatures plunged in several areas, with Leh recording the lowest at -8°C. The Pakistan Meteorological Department predicts further rain, snowfall, and cold conditions in the coming days, offering a much-needed boost to water levels and agriculture while signaling the return of winter across the country.
