Virat Kohli to play 300th ODI after century against Pakistan

Indian cricketer Virat Kohli is set to play his 300th One Day International (ODI) on Sunday, marking another significant milestone in his illustrious career. This achievement comes on the heels of his unbeaten century against arch-rivals Pakistan, a performance that has silenced critics questioning his recent form and future in the sport.

At 36, Kohli showcased his enduring prowess by scoring his first ODI century since November 2023, leading India to a crucial victory that secured their spot in the Champions Trophy semifinals. This inning also saw him surpass the 14,000-run mark in ODIs, making him only the third batsman to reach this milestone, alongside legends Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara.

Teammate KL Rahul lauded Kohli’s contributions, stating, “Words fall short to express how good a player he’s been and what a great servant of Indian cricket he’s been.” Rahul expressed optimism about Kohli’s future performances, highlighting his importance to the team’s success.

Both Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma have retired from T20 internationals but continue to be pivotal in the ODI format. Kohli’s upcoming 300th ODI appearance places him among an elite group of cricketers, with Tendulkar leading the chart at 463 ODI matches.

As India prepares to face New Zealand in their final group match of the Champions Trophy, fans and teammates alike anticipate another stellar performance from Kohli, reinforcing his status as one of cricket’s all-time greats.
