On Wednesday, the United States targeted Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, according to Al Masirah TV, which is under Houthi control. This marks the most recent in a string of strikes executed in response to attacks by the Iran-aligned group on Red Sea ships.
Three residents claimed that the strikes had affected the Al- Jarraf area of Sanaa, near the airport.
Anees al-Asbahi, spokesman for the Houthi-run health ministry, reported in a post on X that the attacks also target an under-construction events hall in a residential district in Al-Thawra directorate in Sanaa, hurting nine persons, including women and children.
Al Masirah stated the strikes also aimed at Al-Suwaidia directorate in southern Yemen’s Al-Bayda province. The province is reported to have Houthis’ military facilities and armament stores.
Last Saturday, the US started the present series of strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, killing at least 31 persons in the largest such operation since President Donald Trump came to the White House in January.
Warning of dire consequences, Trump also warned to hold Iran responsible for any upcoming Houthi attacks. The Revolutionary Guards of Iran claimed the Houthis made independent strategic and operational decisions.
Ignoring US strikes and warnings, the Houthis have declared they will intensify their attacks—including on Israel—in reaction to the US onslaught.
After weeks of relative peace, the Houthis said on Tuesday they had fired a ballistic missile towards Israel and would extend their range of targets in that nation in response for increased Israeli airstrike in Gaza.
Saying they are in solidarity with Gaza’s Palestinians, the Houthis have conducted over 100 strikes against shipping since Israel’s war with Hamas started in late 2023.
