US calls for peaceful protests and human rights respect in Pakistan

US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller expressed on Monday that the United States supports the right of the Pakistani people to engage in peaceful protests.

During a press briefing in Washington, Miller reiterated that the US stands for freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and association, not only in Pakistan but globally.

“We encourage protesters to act peacefully and avoid violence. At the same time, we urge Pakistani authorities to respect human rights, fundamental freedoms, and uphold Pakistan’s laws and constitution while ensuring law and order,” Miller stated.

In response to a query, he reiterated the US stance, calling for peaceful protests and the protection of human rights by Pakistani authorities.

These comments come amid rising tensions in Pakistan’s capital, following the martyrdom of two police officers, including constable Muhammad Mubashir Bilal, who were reportedly attacked by protesters. PTI supporters, calling for the release of their leader Imran Khan, managed to enter Islamabad despite roadblocks and other preventive measures enforced by the government.
