According to The New York Post, US President Donald Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the phone about efforts to settle the Moscow-Kyiv feud.
Speaking to The Post on Friday, Trump declined to say how many times the two leaders have spoken, but emphasized that Putin wants the conflict to stop.
“He wants to see people stop dying,” Trump explained. “All the deceased folks. Young, attractive people. “They’re like your children, two million of them, and for no reason.”
Trump claimed that the war, now in its third year, “never would have happened” if he had been president in 2022. He contrasted his foreign policy stance with that of his predecessor, Joe Biden, adding, “Biden was an embarrassment to our country. “A total embarrassment.”
The president urged urgency in settling the war and highlighted that he had a real plan to end it. “I hope it is quick. Every day, people die. The war in Ukraine is quite nasty. “I want to end this damn thing.”
Trump, with National Security Adviser Mike Waltz on Air Force One, pushed for some diplomatic talks. “Let’s kick off these meetings!” They’d like to get together. Every day, people are losing their lives. Young, handsome soldiers are losing their lives. Young guys, just like my boys. On either side. Everywhere on the battlefield.
So, over in Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov chatted with reporters on Sunday. He mentioned that he couldn’t really say if the report was true or not, pointing out that communication between Russia and the US happens through various channels.
“Naturally, given the vast array of these communications, it is possible that I may not be fully informed or aware of certain aspects.” Consequently, in this instance, I am unable to provide confirmation or denial,” he stated.
‘It is a universal sentiment that the desire for life is deeply ingrained in us all.’
Vice President J.D. Vance is set to engage in discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Munich Security Conference next week.
Trump has put forward a proposal involving a $500 million arrangement with Ukraine aimed at obtaining access to rare-earth minerals and gas, contingent upon security assurances in the context of a potential peace agreement.
Turning to Iran, Trump expressed willingness to reach a non-nuclear solution, preferring diplomacy to military action. “I would prefer to reach an agreement with Iran over non-nuclear issues. That would be preferable to bombing it completely. They do not wish to die. “Nobody wants to die.
He said that such an agreement could inhibit Israeli military action. “If we made the deal, Israel wouldn’t bomb them.” However, he was opaque about potential bargaining terms. “In a way, I dislike telling you what I intend to tell them. You understand, it’s not polite.””I’d tell them I’d make a deal,” Trump said, declining to say what concessions he may provide. “I can’t say it because it’s too offensive. “I will not bomb them.”
