On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump mentioned that he had a “lengthy and highly productive” chat with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
“We talked about Ukraine, the Middle East, energy, artificial intelligence, the strength of the dollar, and a bunch of other topics,” Trump shared on Truth Social.
He mentioned that they all shared their nations’ strengths and the “great benefit” of working together in the future.
“But first, as we both agreed, we want to put an end to the millions of deaths happening in the War with Russia/Ukraine.” President Putin actually used my really strong campaign motto, ‘COMMON SENSE.’ We really believe in it a lot.
“We decided to team up and really connect, even visiting each other’s countries.” We’ve decided to have our teams kick off negotiations right away, and we’re starting by reaching out to President Zelenskyy of Ukraine to fill him in on our discussion. I’m going to do that right now,” he mentioned.
Trump is asking his team to take charge of the negotiations.
Trump mentioned that he reached out to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of the CIA John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and his special envoy Steve Witkoff to take charge of the negotiations.
The president mentioned that he thinks the negotiations will turn out to be “successful.”
Trump repeated his belief that the Russia-Ukraine war wouldn’t have happened if he were president, emphasizing, “No more lives should be lost!”
He also expressed gratitude to Putin for his “time and effort” regarding the call and the release of Marc Fogel, who had been imprisoned in Russia since 2021 and was freed on Tuesday.
“I really think this effort is going to wrap up successfully, and hopefully it’ll be soon!” Trump mentioned.
