Surge in dengue cases in Lahore, public cooperation required: Punjab health department

Dengue fever cases have sharply increased in Lahore, with 56 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The Punjab Health Department confirmed that the total number of dengue cases for the year has now reached 7,451 in the region.

The spike in cases extends beyond Lahore, with Rawalpindi reporting 47 new cases, along with smaller numbers in other areas, including 3 cases in Chakwal and one each in Attock and Multan.

In response, a Health Department spokesperson assured the public that hospitals are stocked with necessary medications and have the capacity to handle the rising number of patients. Health officials have urged residents to take immediate action to reduce the risk of further outbreaks by eliminating stagnant water around their homes, which serves as breeding grounds for the Aedes mosquito responsible for spreading dengue.

“Preventive measures are key to controlling the spread of dengue,” the spokesperson emphasized, stressing the importance of public cooperation with health teams working in high-risk areas. To assist citizens, the Health Department has set up a helpline at 1033 for inquiries and dengue-related concerns. Authorities are also stressing the need for public awareness and vigilance in adhering to preventive practices.

Dengue symptoms typically include sudden high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, swollen glands, and rash. Anyone experiencing these symptoms, particularly with a high fever, is advised to seek medical attention promptly.

As cases continue to rise, health officials are reinforcing the call for preventive actions and continued public cooperation to manage the outbreak.
