Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has formally stood down from his post as a mentor in domestic cricket with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), stating it’s time to shift focus toward other personal and professional responsibilities.
In a post shared on social media, Malik thanked PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, senior board officials, and his former teammate Wahab Riaz for their support. He also appreciated the coaching staff of the Stallions and emphasized that stepping away wasn’t an easy decision but a necessary one to maintain fairness, especially given the increasing demands on his time.
Malik, who has had a long-standing presence in international cricket since debuting in 1999, served as Pakistan’s captain from 2007 to 2009. With over 7,500 runs and 158 wickets in 287 ODIs, he retired from the one-day format after the 2019 World Cup.
He will continue to serve in his role until a replacement is appointed for the upcoming domestic season.
