Under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has opened a prosecution against attorney and human rights activist Jalila Haider.
According to the FIR issued on the complaint of Anisur Rehman, an FIA official, Ms Haider supposedly welcomed and encouraged the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leader Dr Mahrang Baloch on her X account.
The FIR charged Ms Haider with “weaken the state” and “create anxiety in the society” by means of the dissemination of false information.
Ms Haider refuted the accusations made against her and said she has been harassed since 2018 for speaking up for human rights, even as she confirmed the FIR.
Ms Haider claimed she opposed the detention of Dr Baloch and highlighted her organisation, BYC, has not been outlawed.
