The Punjab government has introduced an eight-member committee to manage grants under the Chief Minister Punjab Film Fund, designed to support the revival of the local film industry. This panel, led by Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, includes key officials from cultural, financial, and development sectors.
A significant accomplishment is the approval of Punjab’s first Film City, set to emerge in Lahore’s Nawaz Sharif IT City. With its dedicated studio, advanced post-production facilities, and a film academy, this project is already underway, with land allocated and initial plans taking shape.
The committee is tasked with evaluating applications from filmmakers, including those starting new projects or completing unfinished ones. Eligible applicants must have released at least one film since 2007 and adhere to copyright rules for all submitted scripts.
Beyond funding decisions, the group will implement the Punjab Film Policy, offering incentives based on a film’s box office success. This initiative signals a push to reinvigorate Punjab’s cinematic legacy while fostering creativity and innovation in the industry.
