Rain accompanied by strong winds disrupted daily life in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Thursday. Starting at 11 a.m., the weather brought challenges as heavy rainfall mixed with gusty winds reached speeds of 60 kilometers per hour. By evening, the rain created a slushy mess across roads and streets, making travel hazardous, particularly for motorcyclists.
The precipitation recorded was 31mm in Chaklala, 22mm in Shamsabad, and 23mm in Kutchery. Temperatures dropped to a cool 29 degrees Celsius, offering some relief from the heat but adding to the inconvenience caused by flooded and muddy streets. The bad weather forced many people to stay home, especially students and office workers.
The heavy rain overwhelmed certain areas, with the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) stepping up efforts to drain water from key roads and streets. Emergency teams were deployed, with workers stationed in critical locations like Liaquat Bagh and Moti Mahal, ensuring traffic could resume swiftly.
Meanwhile, the Met Office predicted that the rainy spell would continue until May 11. Warnings about high winds, thunderstorms, and potential damage to structures like electric poles and trees were issued. Residents and farmers were urged to take precautions, while tourists were advised to plan accordingly.
Despite the challenges, officials worked to address the accumulated water and prevent further disruptions, emphasizing public safety during the prolonged wet conditions.
