Rain and thunderstorms forecast across Punjab from May 1–4

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory predicting rain, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms across various regions of Punjab from May 1 to May 4. This change is expected to bring relief from the ongoing heatwave affecting the province.

Upper and Central Punjab

From May 1, upper and central districts—including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Jhelum, and Murree—are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and occasional hail. The PMD warns that these conditions could damage loose structures such as electric poles, trees, and solar panels.

Southern Punjab

Between May 2 and May 4, southern districts like Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalnagar are expected to face similar weather patterns, including thunderstorms, strong winds, and potential dust storms.

Heatwave Relief

The anticipated rainfall is expected to alleviate the severe heatwave currently gripping Punjab. Recent temperatures have soared to 49°C in Nawabshah and 44°C in Multan, with Lahore experiencing highs around 40°C.

Advisory

Residents are advised to stay informed through official weather updates and exercise caution during storms. Farmers, in particular, should consider adjusting their harvesting schedules to mitigate potential weather-related disruptions.
