Purpose-built trains for military forces mobility

The Pakistan Railways (PR) operations have been under great alert all throughout the nation in line with the war-like scenario. Conversely, the PR has also avoided purpose-built moving stock presumably employed by the military services in the present circumstances.

“We are in coordination with them (the armed forces) for providing them with transportation-related services whenever they need and a purpose-built rolling stock (waggons, coaches, locomotives etc) has been allocated for them,” PR Chief Executive Officer Amir Ali Baloch said to Dawn on Thursday.

We will shift the stock right away when they ask us to. We are ready and have our forces standing by.

Mr. Baloch claims that as the PR is not yet experiencing any problems, the operations of the passenger and goods trains are under normal flow. Still, the operations of the trains, the railway stations, etc. have been under great observation. Furthermore, there is no intention to stop the activities since the department cannot do this in a situation of air-space restriction for specific periods and occasional suspension of aircraft operations. “We want to help and accommodate in our trains all those passengers who used to travel by air,” he said. To a query, Mr. Baloch said the security at important stations and trains had also been improved.

PR operations are under great alert all throughout the nation.

In view the attacks from India, the Lahore city district administration has placed all offices of administrations, hospitals, Rescue 1122, and others on high-alert.

Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza further mentioned that a central control room for citizen security and monitoring had been set up at the DC office.

Under the direction of the ADC (Finance and Planning), the administration officials—who also included staff led by Mudassir Nawaz—paid tributes to armed forces for a timely and appropriate reaction to India.

According to a Notification issued by the Establishment Division, Muhammad Nasir Khalily, a BPS-20 officer of the mechanical engineering department, has been transferred with placement of his services at the disposal of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) on a deputation basis for a period of three years.

A notification states that five BPS-18 officers from the civil engineering department of the PR—Mujib Ur Rehman Khuhro, Riaz Mahmood Lashari, Mehtab Ahmad, Muhammad Imran Saeed, and Muhammad Sohail Javed—have been moved to Karachi, Peshawar, Sukkur, Quetta, and Lahore as divisional engineers.
