Punjab minister pushes for NAP renewal to end terrorism

After the train hijacking, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari urged for a new National Action Plan (NAP) to combat terrorism and said PTI’s “anti-army politics” prevents political class unity.

“Achieving national unity is impossible amidst the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s anti-state and anti-army politics,” she told reporters Friday.

She asked the PTI to focus on saving the nation rather than protecting Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned many times since August 2023. She criticized Ali Amin Gandapur’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for sending delegations to Afghanistan while the province was terrorized.

She said unity was tough when the PTI refused to condemn terrorism but targeted the military.

Ms. Bokhari said unity with the PTI was impossible but stressed the need for national unity to combat terrorism. We must work together to fight terrorism. When PTI blames the military instead of condemning terrorism, unity is tough. She said all political factions must unite for national security.

Displeased with the NAP’s lack of full implementation, the Punjab minister asked for its reconsideration. “There should be a new NAP — a new strategy must be formulated to effectively eliminate terrorism,” she said, reaffirming the government’s attention on this problem.

Criminals (May 9 suspects) could not participate in governance negotiations, while other PTI members could negotiate with the government.

In the NA, Ms. Bokhari chastised PTI for not condemning anything. She said PTI assembly members should have spoken out against the banned Balochistan Liberation Army.
