Punjab launches e-taxi pilot with 1,100 electric vehicles and solar charging stations

The Punjab government has approved a pilot project to introduce 1,100 electric taxis across the province, aiming to modernize public transportation and reduce environmental impact. To assist the electric fleet, solar-powered charging stations will be established as part of this program.

Punjab’s larger plan to encourage sustainable urban mobility and lessen dependency on fossil fuels includes the e-taxi project. By integrating electric vehicles into the public transport system, the government seeks to lower carbon emissions and improve air quality in urban areas.

The pilot phase will focus on major cities, with plans to expand based on its success. The introduction of solar-powered charging infrastructure is expected to enhance the feasibility and efficiency of electric taxis, providing a cleaner alternative to traditional fuel-based transportation.
