Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a five-year transport policy aimed at implementing an advanced automated rapid transit system across the province.
Presiding over a high-level meeting in Lahore, she reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the modern transport network within four years, emphasizing its importance in enhancing urban mobility and improving the public’s quality of life.
Officials briefed the meeting on the success of automated rapid transit systems in countries such as Malaysia, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar. They highlighted that the system requires less road space than conventional buses and will feature three-coach buses capable of accommodating over 300 passengers.
The initiative will be introduced in ten cities in three phases, with the first phase covering Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and other key urban centers.
The modern transit system is expected to enhance the commuting experience, ease traffic congestion, and contribute to sustainable urban development in Punjab.
