Lahore (Commerce Desk) – Oil marketing companies in the country recorded a significant increase in the sale of petroleum products during March. Sources said that overall sales rose by approximately 13 percent, mainly due to increased public travel during Eid holidays and weekly off days.
Due to a drop in electricity generation from hydropower, power plants increased their purchase of furnace oil, further boosting overall demand.
- Petrol sales increased by 8 percent compared to February, reaching 670,000 tons, while in February it was 620,000 tons.
- Diesel sales rose by 13 percent, reaching 590,000 tons in March, up from 520,000 tons in February.
- Furnace oil sales also surged to 90,000 tons, compared to only 40,000 tons in February.
Although the government had implemented various measures to save petrol and diesel, the increased public travel during holidays further raised the demand for petroleum products. Experts warn that if alternative energy sources are not improved, the demand for oil may continue to rise in the coming months.
