Islamabad (Pakistan News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination was recognized in United Nations Security Council resolutions on January 5.
In his message on the occasion of Right to Self-Determination Day, the Prime Minister highlighted that on January 5, 1949, the UN Commission for India and Pakistan passed a historic resolution, stipulating that the future of the state of Jammu and Kashmir would be determined through a free and impartial plebiscite.
However, he expressed regret that this promise has not been fulfilled due to India’s illegal occupation. He further stated that the people of occupied Kashmir have faced atrocities by Indian forces for eight decades, but India’s oppressive measures have failed to weaken the resolve of the Kashmiri population.
Shahbaz Sharif urged the international community to take effective measures to end India’s oppressive actions. Today, Kashmiris living in Pakistan, the region, and around the world are observing Right to Self-Determination Day.
