Lahore (Pakistan News): For the first time in Pakistan, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced a transparent digital system to support widows and their orphaned children.
Under this initiative, the “Punjab Chief Minister Rehmat Card” will provide direct financial assistance of up to PKR 100,000 to eligible families. In its first phase, the program will support over 50,000 underprivileged households, with the official launch scheduled immediately after Eid. Widows will receive PKR 100,000, while orphaned children will be provided PKR 25,000 each.
Applications for the Rehmat Card can be submitted through a mobile application, web portal, call center, and the Office of Zakat. Provincial Special Assistant for Ushr and Zakat, Rashid Nasrallah, gave a detailed briefing on the program.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that widows in Punjab will no longer remain dependent on charity; it is the responsibility of the state to ensure they receive their rightful support with dignity. She emphasized that all measures will be taken to deliver every citizen’s share of provincial resources and help widows achieve self-employment.
Through this program, widows and their children will gain financial independence and the ability to live a dignified life.
