NEPRA Hearing Concludes, Reduction in Industrial Tariff Expected

Islamabad (Pakistan News): The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has concluded hearings on the government’s request regarding adjustments in tariffs and fixed charges. The decision will be issued after reviewing the relevant data.

According to Power Division officials, following the decision, industrial sector tariffs are expected to decrease by Rs 4.04 per unit. Additionally, for the first time, the Rs 101 billion cross-subsidy imposed on industries in the billing cycle will be eliminated.

Officials explained that currently, the industrial sector subsidizes Rs 101 billion for domestic consumers, commercial users provide Rs 90 billion, and general service users contribute Rs 35 billion.

Furthermore, net-metering users have collectively generated 35 billion units of electricity. Had these users been on the grid, there would have been a Rs 3 difference per unit. This decision is expected to reduce electricity costs for industrial consumers and enhance transparency in the billing system.
