Lahore High Court Seeks Safety Plan for Kite Flying

Lahore (Turkey News): The Lahore High Court has directed police authorities to present a safety plan to protect citizens following notifications permitting kite flying.

The hearing took place on a miscellaneous petition challenging the Kite Flying Ordinance and the District Commissioner’s Basant permission notification. Justice Malik Owais Khalid presided over the proceedings following a request by the Judicial Activism Panel.

The petitioner’s lawyer, Azhar Siddique, argued that protecting citizens’ lives and property during kite flying is a fundamental right, urging the court to annul the notification related to the Kite Flying Ordinance and Basant permission. Submitted evidence included disturbing images showing a child who had been injured during kite flying.

The court questioned the Additional Secretary (Judicial) about the measures in place to ensure public safety. During the hearing, the court instructed the Punjab IG and the CCPO to prepare and present a detailed safety plan.

Assistant Advocate General Anwar Hussain objected, stating that the ordinance has now become an act, making the petition non-justiciable. However, the court said legal aspects would be considered later, emphasizing that the petition was filed to ensure the safety of citizens’ lives and property.
