Peshawar (Pakistan Khabar): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to provide Rs 3.9 billion for the early completion of the Peshawar Northern Bypass project.
The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi, where the progress of the project was reviewed. It was decided that the provincial government will provide Rs 1 billion for the construction of two underpasses and one bridge on the bypass. Officials of the National Highway Authority (NHA) assured that the project will be completed by June 2026.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi stated that due to insufficient funding by the federal government, the project has remained delayed since 2010, and its non-completion has slowed down development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said the project is of great public importance and that its completion will not only ease travel but also promote commercial activities.
The meeting was informed that Rs 23.5 billion has already been spent on the project, with overall financial progress at 85.6 percent. Physical progress stands at 100 percent for Package One, 64 percent for Package Two, 86.6 percent for Package Three, and 69 percent for Package Three-A.
Advisor to the Chief Minister on Finance Muzammil Aslam, NHA members, the Peshawar Commissioner, and officials from relevant provincial departments also attended the meeting.
