Islamabad (Pakistan News): The Supreme Court of Pakistan held a hearing on the bail petition of an accused who allegedly collected Rs 1.75 million from a citizen by promising to send him abroad.
A two-member bench, headed by Justice Hashim Kakak, conducted the hearing, which included an engaging exchange with the victim. Justice Kakak inquired about the amount received, and the victim’s lawyer confirmed it was Rs 1.75 million. When asked which country the victim intended to travel to, he mentioned Greece.
Justice Kakak remarked that traveling to Greece often leads to hardships and suggested it is better to earn a living locally, noting that many people attempting such journeys by boat have died.
The court asked whether the accused had sent the citizen abroad or returned the money. The victim’s lawyer stated that neither occurred, and the checks provided by the accused had bounced; separate cases for check bouncing are already registered.
The accused’s lawyer requested leniency, noting this was their first case before the Supreme Court. Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim stated that the court would issue a decision before Eid, granting bail if deemed appropriate.
The hearing was adjourned until the following Monday.
