Lahore (Pakistan News) – The legal framework for conducting local government elections in Punjab has faced delays. The Punjab Local Government Election Rules 2025 report has still not been submitted to the Election Commission.
Sources stated that the Local Government Department will send three summaries to the Punjab government regarding the election working, while the Election Commission’s committee continues efforts to reach a consensus on the laws. Following consultations on the demarcation rules, the summary is expected to be sent to the Punjab government today. The election rules have already been prepared and submitted to the Commission.
The summaries concerning the Election Rules 2025 and urban and rural demarcations will also be sent to the Punjab government. Deputy Commissioners have submitted reports on urban and rural demarcations to the Election Commission committee.
Secretary Local Government, Shakeel Ahmed Mian, said all objections raised by the Election Commission, including those regarding Form 45 and Form 47, have been addressed, and the procedures for local elections have been clarified. He added that once the rules and demarcations are finalized, constituency delimitation will be conducted under the responsibility of the Election Commission, and the summary of the election rules has been sent to the Punjab government for approval.
