Bad News for Electricity Consumers: Price May Rise by 48 Paisa per Unit

Islamabad (Pakistan News): Electricity consumers in Pakistan may see a price increase of 48 paisa per unit over the coming month. The Central Power Production Agencies (CPPA) have submitted a request to NEPRA for a monthly fuel price adjustment, which will be heard by the authority tomorrow.

According to the request, 848.7 million units of electricity were produced in December, while 820.8 million units were supplied to DISCOs. CPPA stated that the per-unit cost of electricity in December was Rs 9.62.

CPPA’s data shows that in December, electricity was generated from various sources as follows:

  • Hydel: 18.07%
  • Local coal: 13.99%
  • Imported coal: 10.13%
  • Natural gas: 11.20%
  • Imported gas: 17.24%
  • Nuclear: 25.05%

After NEPRA’s hearing, the final monthly fuel price adjustment will determine the impact on consumer electricity bills.
