5G Spectrum Auction Officially Launched in Pakistan

Islamabad (Pakistan News): Pakistan has officially begun the auction for 5G spectrum, initially targeting the rollout of 5G services in five major cities.

The first round of the auction has been completed, with the second round set to start shortly. Results from the first phase have already been released. In the first phase, the 2600 MHz band offered 190 MHz of spectrum, generating additional demand of 110 MHz. In the second phase, the spectrum price was increased by five percent. Similarly, in the 35 MHz band, 280 MHz of spectrum was available in the first phase, attracting a demand of 200 MHz.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, PTA Chairman Hafeez ur Rehman stated that this digital highway is the engine of Pakistan’s progress. Federal Minister for IT Shiza Fatima said Pakistan is moving toward a technological revolution, joining the countries utilizing 5G. Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted that the government has provided a full ecosystem for the auction, advancing toward new industries in blockchain and artificial intelligence.

The 5G auction is being conducted virtually online, with participation from the country’s three major mobile operators.
