PTI urges quick action on 26th amendment

PTI leaders have urged the judiciary to prioritise election rigging and 26th Amendment cases. At a news conference at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Omar Ayub, and Shibli Faraz complained about delays.

Barrister Gohar said PTI had submitted 74 applications since February 2024 alleging voting violations, but the courts have not ruled. He also criticised the October 2024 26th Amendment for appointing 46 contentious justices without solving larger issues. PTI boycotted Judicial Commission hearings and demanded a quick settlement.

Omar Ayub urged the judges to defend the rule of law after PTI founder Imran Khan was arrested. Khan, Bushra Bibi, and other leaders were denied due treatment as political prisoners, he claimed. Further criticism accused the government of deteriorating economic conditions and misrepresenting the population.

Without clean elections, Pakistan’s political stability was unattainable, Senator Shibli Faraz said. PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said Imran Khan was harassed and denied legal support in jail.

Former minister Fawad Chaudhry accused the PTI leadership of being “planted” by powerful forces, escalating infighting. He said that their failure to release Khan was purposeful and against the party’s interests. Chaudhry created a ‘Imran Khan Release’ committee to free the former prime minister.

As Pakistan’s political landscape is plagued by court fights, the incident highlights PTI’s poor relationship with the judiciary and administration.
