The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has firmly denied claims that its founder, Imran Khan, who is currently in jail, has accepted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s invitation to hold political talks.
In a public statement, PTI’s Central Information Secretary, Sheikh Waqas Akram, clarified that while PM Sharif did call PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, their conversation was limited to concerns about rising tensions with India. Akram stated that the media reports implying political negotiations are incorrect and misleading.
He further explained that no proposal for dialogue was brought up during the conversation, nor was any message regarding talks passed along to Imran Khan. According to Akram, earlier efforts by PTI to engage in discussions with the government and JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman were disrupted due to media leaks, which halted progress before any concrete outcome could be achieved.
Chairman Gohar also denied any kind of deal involving Imran Khan, emphasizing that while PTI supports resolving political matters through dialogue, no such discussion or compromise has taken place. Kasim and Sulaiman, the sons of Imran Khan, have also affirmed that no deal or arrangement has been established concerning their father’s case.
The denial comes as political tensions remain high, following earlier unsuccessful dialogue attempts between PTI and the coalition government led by the PML-N. PTI had withdrawn from negotiations in January 2025, citing unmet demands, including the formation of judicial commissions to probe the May 9 unrest and the release of detained political workers.
